Krystal Long Duss

Krystal Long Duss 1974 – 2003           http://krystal-long-duss.memory-of.com/ Victim Impact Statement Honorable Judge Dearing, My name is Jo Ann Webb. I am Krystal Duss’ mother. How can I give you a glimpse of the unspeakable, unthinkable, unimaginable despair, pain, suffering and deep grief of having my child killed by a drunk driver? December 9, 2003 seemed like a typical day. I went to work. I teach at a public high school. Krystal and I usually talked on the phone several times a day. She’d call just to say, “hi.” I’d call to see how her day was going and tell her that I loved her. On December 9, Krystal called to tell me her one year old twin sons, Danny and Andy, were having flu like symptoms, and since the pediatrician’s office was closed, she and her husband, Joe, were taking the boys to the emergency […]

Bauti Schamis

To Bauti, From Dad, Mom, and Cami Cancer. A word that terrifies, which paralyzes, that leaves breathless, and worsens more even though this disease are diagnosed at a 7-year-old son. Bauti, you never know what did you fight against, you just know you had an infection in the leg, but you had a tumor. You endured surgery for 10 hours, punctures, chemotherapy, but always with a smile. You faced it as a lion, with all your strength, for 2 years, giving us that we love you a sample of bravery, of courage, of love. If you knew just how wonderfully proud I am, to myself personally, that I have committed many mistakes in my life, you gave me a lesson of courage,if only I could be a little bit of the brave you are… YOU ARE MY HERO, SON, I admire you so much… A week ago came into the […]

Christopher Adrian Gomez

Christopher Adrian Gomez 1982 – 2002 Adrian, Today I thought of you Like I have always done from the days before you were born and beyond And I wished you would give me a sign, to tell me you’re okay Even though I know you are – it’s me that often is not As the void within is sometimes so deep Then I remember what you taught me – about life and living in the now And I see the rays of the sun reaching out through the clouds Reminding me that I just have to close my eyes and you will be there, Smiling. I hold you close and give you a hug Then letting you go Knowing that we will connect again. With so much love, Mom 11/07/06 Then, 2 days later, there was a rainbow in front of my house and there was no rain or rain […]

Drew Madison Haynie

Drew Madison Haynie 2002               Drew Madison Haynie was born on Aug. 9th, 2002. Her mommy, Jessica, held Drew and also visited the nursery before being going into the ICU. Drew’s grandparents took her home on Aug. 12th. She appeared healthy until she began burning up with fever 4 days later, and was brought back to the hospital. On her 10th day, Aug. 19th, Drew’s life support was removed. 12 friends and family members held hands, sang songs and prayed for her during her final minutes. It was only after her autopsy that we learned she died from herpes. Jessica then passed 6 days after Drew on Aug. 25th, also from herpes. Drew brought an abundance of love to Jess and everyone who knew her. It is amazing the impact one life can have in such a short time. Drew’s life was pure love.
