Living Through Grief Healthily

Living Through Grief Healthily

Grieving takes a toll on you mentally and physically when you're too overcome with sadness to take care of yourself properly. However, for your health and well-being, you need to care for yourself in the best way possible. Today, griefHaven shares some tips to help you cope with your grief in a healthy way.

Enjoy the Sunshine

When you come in contact with sunshine, NZ Herald notes that your brain releases serotonin, which can boost your mood and make you feel calmer, both of which help improve how you process your grief. While you need to regulate how much sun you get due to the risk of skin cancer, studies show regular sun exposure can help strengthen your bones and reduce your risk of certain types of cancer

Let More Light Into Your Home

Not only is it wise for you to get more natural light outdoors, but it's important to let that light into your home as well. As with other ways to reduce stress in your living space like decluttering and incorporating houseplants, natural light may enhance your mood and quality of sleep, among other benefits.

Let more light into your home by opening up your doors during the day as much as possible. Also, consider getting rid of your curtains or opting for sheer ones. By placing mirrors in rooms, you reflect the light throughout the area. Additionally, when you paint, pick colors that reflect the light, such as white and light-colored pastels.

Change Your Decor

Prioritize changing your decor to help boost your mood and keep your mind occupied and off your loss. As you're making changes, keep health in mind. For instance, try painting your home colors that promote relaxation or productivity, such as blue or green. Consider upgrading your kitchen with more countertop space, so you're more likely to want to prepare home-cooked meals during this trying time.

Listen to More Music

Music has a powerful way of impacting your mood. In fact, listening to merely 15 minutes of your favorite variety of music can stimulate your brain to release dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that evokes happiness. Additionally, if you listen to relaxing tunes before bed, you may get a better night's sleep.

Consider Starting a Business

Think about beginning a business at this time. It can help keep your mind occupied and away from thoughts of your sorrows. You can start a based business to offer a service to the community or a home-based business company where you ship goods or supply services throughout the country or even the world.

No matter what kind of business you begin, it's important not to overwhelm yourself, especially during a time when you're more emotional than normal. Therefore, break the large task of starting a business into smaller steps. This way, you can spend less time on paperwork and more time getting your business off the ground.

Also, take advantage of free online resources to streamline your daily operations. For instance, most businesses use PDFs these days. So if you’re unfamiliar with the file type, here’s a guide on how to edit a PDF that’s sure to come in handy.

Turn This Sad Occurrence Into a Time for Healthy Changes

While it's healthy to mourn a loss, that doesn't mean you have to live unhealthily. By making this painful period into a time for changes, you can ease the toll grieving can have on you. Remember to bring in the sunshine, change up the decor, put on more music, and perhaps even start your own business.
